Some familiar faces are up to exciting things in the legal cannabis sector — lifestyle guru and daytime television personality Martha Stewart has partnered with Canadian marijuana growers, Canopy Growth. With Stewart’s assistance, Canopy Growth will begin developing CBD products extracted from hemp. The first project they plan on tackling together is “sensible products for people’s beloved pets.”
Canopy Growth, based in Smith Falls, Ontario, is one of the largest marijuana producers in the world; they operate 10 licensed marijuana and hemp farms with over 4.3 million square feet for production. According to their most recent quarterly earnings, Canopy reportedly sold 10.1 tons of marijuana and marijuana products in just October and December alone.
What role exactly will Stewart be playing in her new relationship with Canopy Growth? According to her, she’ll be an adviser and assist with the development of Canopy’s new line of animal health products. CBD has begun to skyrocket in popularity as a natural solution for pet health and wellness, so it’s not surprising that Canopy would want to use Stewart’s experience and brand awareness while exploring the CBD market.
“I am delighted to establish this partnership with Canopy Growth and share with them the knowledge I have gained after years of experience in the subject of living,” Stewart stated in a release.
The Cannabis Industry
The demand for marijuana and THC products has risen dramatically in Canada since the legalization of recreational use in October 2018. Interest in CBD also continues to grow and spread, further adding to what many have called a cannabis gold rush.
Despite the increasing demand, cannabis and hemp companies often struggle establishing their credibility. Cannabis still largely has a negative reputation associated with illegality and shady dealings.
One of the best ways for cannabis producers to gain the trust of their consumer is with star power. A household name like Martha Stewart is a name you can trust. Stewart has spent decades in the public eye as a wholesome, well-known TV host, lifestyle expert, decorator, author, and entrepreneur. Her name and face grace products on retail shelves across the nation and can be found in households across the world.
“As soon as you hear the name Martha, you know exactly who we’re talking about,” stated Canopy Growth co-CEO Bruce Linton. “Martha is one of a kind and I am so excited to be able to work alongside this icon to sharpen our CBD product offerings.”
Stewart & Snoop
While Martha Stewart is a big deal, but she’s not the first celebrity to partner with Canopy Growth. One of Stewart’s friends, Calvin Broadus, Jr. (better known as Snoop Dogg), is also partnered with the marijuana production company.
Tweed Inc., a Canopy Growth subsidiary, partnered with Snoop in 2016 to market his cannabis brand, Leafs by Snoop. Allegedly, Canopy Growth was first encouraged to speak with Stewart at the prompting of Snoop Dogg’s talent agents.
Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg go way back — the two have been close for 11 years. Back in 2008, they partnered together for the very first time on the Martha Stewart Show, where she showed him how to make her mother’s homemade mashed potatoes.
The next year she invited him back so he could teach her how to make his special holiday brownies. Since then, their friendship has grown, and they now host a cooking and lifestyle show together on VH1 called Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.
The surprising friendship between Stewart and Snoop Dogg has led to some awesome collaborations in the past, and we anticipate that this newest venture will be just as great. The cannabis industry is booming, and Stewart’s new CBD products will fill a lucrative niche in the market. It will be exciting to watch the impact these celebrities have on Canopy Growth and the marijuana industry as a whole.
